See Ya in San Fran
Today after we won in Baltimore, I got word that I made the American League All-Star team. I'm definitely thrilled to represent the Angels for my first All-Star appearance. It is truly an amazing feeling and something we all dream of as kids. To be honest, it makes it a lot better that the team has been playing well because everyone on this team deserves the credit. I'm a little disappointed that some of my teammates weren't selected, we have a lot of guys who are deserving. Vlad and Frankie also made the squad so it will be fun going up there with those guys. I'm going to take it all in, I guess there are a lot of parties and events to attend while we are there. I would like to catch the Home Run Derby, that is always something that I enjoy watching on TV during the break. Those guys hit some absolute rockets all over the yard.
I remember as a kid being so excited to watch all the guys in the All-Star game. For whatever reason, I remember a game-winning hit by Julio Franco in 1990 that won a game for the AL. Yup, the same Julio Franco who is still plating today - amazing. We have to keep the win streak alive for the American League. We all have a job to do at this game with the winner now getting home field advantage for the World Series. Thanks for reading.

CONGRATULATIONS, John!!!!!!!!! I was hoping you would post your feelings on being selected. Did you ever think you'd the chance to play in the All-Star game when you came up to the show? Hope you get to attend the derby, and we get to see you pitch in the game, even if it's just an inning or two...
-
congrats on making the team John. Well deserved and really a no brainer. You have been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season. Wish OC could have gone with you guys. We'll try to get Kelvim in there to to join you, Vlad and Frankie!
-
Congrats on making the team!
-
Congrats Lackey! No O-Cab is weird, but I would probably argue for about 7+ Angels to make the team. This is a big game because we can watch more World Series games in Anaheim if you win. But no pressure. Thanks for the blog.
-
what does it take for a guy like me to sit on the turf during the home run contest?
-
Nice work Johnny. I still don't forgive you for beating my Giants in Game 7. But I tip my cap. You have been one of the most consistent pitchers in baseball the last 3 seasons.
-
Congrats Mr. Lackey...certainly a deserving, and I think, long overdue, honor bestowed on you with your All-Star selection! Definitely a shame Orlando Cabrera wasn't selected to join you and your teammates in San Fran...but I guess the nature of the beast when it comes to the All-Star selection process.
-
You have earned this All Star turn John, you have settled in to become an Ace of the staff, we can always turn to you to steady the ship and turn in a great performance even when you dont have your best stuff...the mark of a true Ace...Go out and have fun..enjoy everything, heck even join in the HR derby if they let ya!....Have fun because this is a celibration of the best players in Baseball this isnt for the fans, its for you in recognition for all you contribute to the game....Congrats John!!!!
-
Congrats Lack, just too bad that Cabby was not selected!! Shields also deserves a vote along with Figgy!! Hell, the whole friggen team should be selected. Show them heat and, if given the chance, strike out that sleaze ball Bonds!!!!!
-
Congrats John. The fans are doing their best to get Kelvim on the team with you guys!!
-
Way to go, Big John! There's no way they could deny you considering not only your outstanding record but also the fact that you have the best blog going!
Keep up the excellent work, young man, and keep on lighting up that Halo! -
Congratulations John - you have been pitching fantastic and you deserve it. Can't wait to watch the All-Star Game. Heading to NY to see you guy play at Yankee Stadium this coming week-end. See you are the ball park!!!
-
John - Congratulations on making the All-Star Team - you have been pitching incredibly well and you deserve to make the team. What was that little exchange about between you and Nap when you were heading into the dugout? then later in the dugout? during the Baltimore game on Sunday!
Again Congrats can't wait to see you pitch at the All-Stars -
AngelMonkey - Thanks, looking forward to the game! Nap and I probably got caught up in the moment on a pitch call or location, but he's my guy. That guy battles, did you see the end of that game? wow....
-
It would be fun to see Napoli as a "guest blogger" ... since he has a little bit of extra time on his hands while he rehabs ... :) I bet he has some good stories! Work on that, would ya, John? :)
-
That's awesome, John - you deserve it! Have a blast up there! Amazing play by Vlad/Nap to finish out that win Sunday ... how's Napoli's shin? Ouch. He's one tough dude :)
-
Vegas - Nap is a rock back there, that kid is a gamer. He has a high ankle spain and is in a boot right now. He was put on the DL and might be out for a few weeks. He'll work his tail off in rehab to get back to his team.
-
It's a total drag that OC wasn't selected, but as a Halos' fan I'm glad he gets some time off...take care of yourself in Frisco big guy, you got a lot of work left in the second half.
-
I'm ready for the stretch run. We need to play the same ball as we did in the first half and the rest should fall into place. OC should have made that team. I think he became a victim of the system that says a player must make it from every team. He was as deserving of anybody in the league. No doubt about it.
-
You're the man, John. Stick it to the NL!
-
John, congrats. I'm an O's fan, and you always give us a difficult time. The Angels are a tough team, and I think seen a vastly underrated in baseball. Good luck to you all.
I was at the game Sunday in Baltimore, and I have photos of the action, including uite a few of you on the mound.

MDguy - no doubt, your O's are a tough team, we had our hands full the whole series. We always seem to struggle at Camden (as you probably know)...Some real tough losses in that yard (which is awesome by the way). The site is cool bro, I just checked the link. O's are lucky to have a dedicated fan like you.
-
John, a big congrats on making the all star team. You really deserve to be on the AL squad. Keep up the great pitching and go Halos!!!
-
John,
It's a pleasure watching you pitch .... the way you bring the passion is definitely old school .... reminds me of the days of watching Drysdale and Gibson. Looked like things got a little intense in the dugout yesterday what was up between you and Nap?
Congrats on being an All-Star!!!! Strike Barry's @ss out!!!! -
Appreciate it man. I'm just an emotional guy out there, that's just me. I leave it all out on the field. Don't know if I'm in the Drysdale/Gibson category but thanks for noticing my style.
-
Whats up with espn baseball tnite and the hating of john lackey and the angels , if its not the yankee they dnt get any love
-
being on the West Coast, I think Baseball Tonight does most of the their stuff before our games are over.
-
Great job John!
-
Good luck in the All Star game. Party it up Goat style in San Fran!
-
I plan on it!
-
Congrats Buddy, you deserve it!
-
Bog John..
Remember baby..
THIS IS YOUR YEAR!
Congrats brother.
-
John, kudos on making the All-Star team. It's truly an honor, especially when you've been selected not in a popularity contest, but by . Speaking of popularity contests, we Angels fans are doing our best to get Kelvim Escobar voted onto the team as well (fan Internet voting determines the last member of the squad). Even if you don't get in the game (your shoulder could probably use the rest, right?), you should be proud just to be there. Hope to see you at the Big A soon! Oh, and pass along get well wishes to Mike Napoli.
-
I voted for Kelvim, tell all your friends to. We have to get that guy up to SF! I could use the rest as could anybody at this time of year. I'm ready to get after it in the second half.
-
Congrats Big John from Abilene, Texas, you make us proud! I watch every game on Directv. You are a regular on the front page of the ARN, keep up the good work!
-
I am so proud to represent Abilene. Thanks for being so supportive.
-
When you hit that mound, remember that you are playing for Game 1 of the World Series to be in Anaheim.
-
I hear ya 14th - We need to secure the Home Field.
-
congrats man.
-
It's great that your finally getting recognized for the great pitcher that you are. I ordered my Lakcey All-Star Jersey the same day it was announced you made the team. What do you think when you see people wearing a Jersey with your name on it? How about an All-Star Jersey nonetheless?
-
The first time I saw someone with my jersey on I couldn't believe it. It was such a cool feeling. Now an All-Star jersey? That will be just a special.
-
props on the all-star game. sure, you have a lot of talented players in L.A. but you wouldnt want it to be the Angels V.S. NL all-stars. it wouldnt be fun. there are a lot of great players out there. best of luck. i love my mariners but i dont think they can overtake you guys this year. hopefully the pull through with the wildcard!
-
congrads on the all-star game! Enjoy and Have fun! Strike out Barry and after you do give the fans the horns will be watching!!
-
